New to New York City. Settling in and trying to live like a New Yorker. Been walking for miles in the last few days; up and down the avenues and city streets.
All the skyscrapers are real, just like what you see in films. The steam coming off the pavements is also true; as seen in ‘Once Upon a Time in America‘, even in the warmer May days.
The apartment is in Midtown Manhattan, less than 2 minutes walk to the famous 5th Avenue. The Central Park end of it is certainly ‘paved’ with diamonds and gold. It’s for the most affluent of the world. The other end of 5th Avenue is more for ‘real’ people, where I certainly feel more at home.
New York is noisy, dense and very expensive. The cost of living is higher than London and Brighton. Done the first Fresh Direct grocery shopping order, in an attempt to shop economically but shocked by how much it cost for how little you get. Shame that there isn’t an Aldi in Manhattan.

Union Square Greenmarket is a great place. That’s where you get your fresh vegetable fix. Got two huge bunches of fresh green for $5. You can also get cheese, honey, bread, flowers and more. It’s like Farmers’ Market in the UK. Better yet, it’s on 4 days a week. That makes me very happy.
More to see and do. More to explore. Might join a MoMA short course. Exciting time.
